Situated 27 km (16 miles) southeast of the town of Jasper.
During early summer the lake is 9 km (5.5 miles) long, 1 km (.62 miles) wide and 30 metres (100ft) deep. But, every fall it mysteriously drains naturally like a giant bathtub with a missing plug. First Nation's people originally called it Magic Lake.

Maligne Lake
Maligne Lake is the second largest glacier-fed lake in the world. It is approximately 22.5 km (14 miles) long and is 97 m (318 ft) at its deepest point, in the south end of the lake. It averages 35 m (115 ft) in depth. It sits at approximately 1 670 m (5 480 ft) above sea level. Maligne Lake is fed and drained by the Maligne River, which enters the lake on its south side, near Mount Unwin, and drains the lake to the north. Maligne Lake takes its name from the French word for malignant or wicked. The name was used by Father Pierre-Jean de Smet (1801-1873) who was a Belgian Roman Catholic priest and member of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits), active in missionary work among the Amerindiens in the mid-19th century, to describe the turbulent river that flows from the lake in the spring.
Le Lac Maligne est le deuxième plus grand lac au monde alimenté par glacier. Il est environ 22,5 km de long et 97 m à son point le plus profond à l'extrémité sud du lac. Il est en moyenne de 35 m de profondeur. Il se trouve à environ 1670 m d'altitude. Le lac Maligne est alimenté et drainé par la rivière Maligne, qui entre dans le lac sur le côté sud, près du mont Unwin et draine le lac au nord.
